Efini

Efini was a Japanese automotive sub-brand launched by Mazda in 1991 as part of a multi-channel dealership strategy, similar to the approach Mazda took with other channel-specific marques like Autozam and Eunos. The brand sold upmarket and sporty Mazda-developed vehicles through a dedicated retail network in Japan, targeting buyers who wanted something distinct from the standard Mazda lineup. The Efini MS-6, MS-8, and MS-9 were rebadged versions of Mazda's Cronos-family sedans, with the MS-9 sitting at the top of the range as a large, rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan sharing its platform and rotary or V6 engine options with the Mazda 929. The multi-channel strategy proved commercially difficult to sustain, and Mazda consolidated its Japanese dealership network in the mid-1990s, folding Efini and its sister brands back into the core Mazda brand.
