Sydney's car calendar runs on two engines. One is Sydney Motorsport Park at Eastern Creek, which hosts something nearly every weekend, from GT racing to one-make festivals to the end-of-year meets. The other is the spread of shows, drags and cruises across the west, the south-west and up the coast. Spring is the busy season, and October is stacked.

Three days of GT racing at Sydney Motorsport Park as a round of the Shannons SpeedSeries: GT World Challenge Australia, Monochrome GT4 and the support categories. Friday admission is free, the cheapest way going to stand in a paddock full of GT3 cars with their engine covers off.

The same month has Appin Fair Cars and Community at Appin Public School, the Picton Swap Meet with its Sunday 7am gates, and a car and lifestyle day at Parkside Eats in Marsden Park with supercars, superbikes, JDM and classics promised. Small, and full of cars you will not see at the track.

Bumper 2 Bumper Carshow (October)
An international car culture show that started in the Philippines more than twenty years ago and now comes to Sydney's west, a car show and an off-road show in one. Cars, rigs, music, and side contests like loudest roar.

SubiNats (October)
Australia's largest annual Subaru gathering takes over Sydney Motorsport Park for a day: the GFB Supersprint, roll racing, a shotgun shootout, the Roo Racing show and shine, vendor stalls and skidpan passenger rides. If you own a WRX or an STI, this is your Christmas.

BMW SuperFest (October)
Australia's largest BMW gathering, with more than 300 cars from rare classics to current models and a crowd above 2,000, at Sydney Motorsport Park on a Sunday. The same day the circuit hosts Women In Drifting, a track day worth wandering over to.

Chromefest, The Entrance (October)
Worth the drive north. Chromefest is a three-day festival of cars, music and retro culture at The Entrance on the Central Coast, with more than 450 classics built before 1979 on display through the weekend and a street cruise through town. The Saturday brings the lowrider community in as well, with its own gathering in support of the main event.

For The Girls and Friends, Marrickville (October)
An inner-west evening on the rooftop car park at Marrickville Metro, back for its third year: a car and bike showcase, an art exhibition, a charity raffle, food vendors and live entertainment. Open to everyone, and children twelve and under get in free.

Halloween weekend: three events, one Saturday (October)
The last Saturday of October is a big day at Eastern Creek. Powercruise runs its one-day Powerplay at Sydney Motorsport Park, Halloween themed, with cruise sessions, racing, powerskids, burnouts and the Dream Team demonstrations, every kind of vehicle welcome. Next door, Sydney Dragway hosts Bangers and Mash, a revival of classic drag racing with Nostalgia Funny Cars, Fuel Altereds and Front Engine Dragsters. And at Greenway Wetherill Park, All Commodore Night is an evening show and shine, twenty dollars to enter your car and about thirty trophies on the table.

Hyundai N Festival (November)
The eighth annual N Festival runs over three days at ONE Raceway near Goulburn, about two hours south-west of the city, with activities on and off the track. The i30 N crowd treats it as a pilgrimage.

The modified and tuner scene closes its year at Sydney Motorsport Park with the TUNED official end of year meet, a Saturday evening in December. Details land on the event page.

Summer: hot rods and trucks
January has Bay Area Hot Rods marking fifty years with a show at Ramsgate RSL. February brings the Sydney Truck Showdown to Ferrers Road at Eastern Creek: all truck makes and models, truck drag racing, rides, live entertainment and food trucks, a good day out even if you have never cared about a Kenworth.

Three more belong on any Sydney list. The Supercars Championship's Sydney round runs under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park. The Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama is three hours west and half of Sydney goes. And the Shannons Sydney Classic fills Eastern Creek with club cars for a day.
