The Mitsubishi eK is a series of kei cars from Mitsubishi Motors, initially launched on October 11, 2001, as an evolution of the Minica model. The name "eK" stands for "excellent keijidōsha" (or "excellent minicar") and is pronounced as "ee kay", a play on words that sounds like "good kei [car]" in Japanese. Interestingly, since June 8, 2005, Mitsubishi has been supplying 36,000 eK Wagons annually to Nissan, which are then sold under the Nissan Otti name within the Japanese market. The Otti was later replaced by the Nissan Dayz on June 6, 2013, with a transition period where both models were sold side by side until the Otti was eventually discontinued on June 28, 2013. However, in April 2016, Mitsubishi faced a controversy when it was revealed that employees had tampered with fuel efficiency data for models including the eK Wagon, eK Space, Nissan Dayz, and Nissan Dayz Roox.
