Daewoo Motors, originally founded as "National Motors" in 1937 in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, Japanese Korea, underwent multiple name changes before becoming Daewoo Motors in 1982 following its acquisition by the Daewoo Group. The South Korean automaker faced financial challenges and subsequently sold most of its assets to General Motors for $1.2 billion in 2002, becoming a subsidiary of the American company.
