The Suzuki Vitara, an SUV series by Suzuki introduced in 1988, has undergone five generations of evolution. The second and third generations were branded as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, whereas the fourth generation dropped the "Grand" designation. In various markets, including Japan, the car has been known as the Suzuki Escudo. The name "Vitara" was chosen due to its inspiration from the Latin word "vita," which translates to vitality in English. Interestingly, in the Japanese Domestic Market, the vehicle is predominantly referred to as the Suzuki Escudo, with the name paying homage to the "escudo," Portugal's former currency before transitioning to the Euro.
